Ronald Moehr: There are monthly payments except if U use it in its' most basic form, or if you have a lifetime subscription. U can buy a lifetime service Tivo box for $40 to $576 on ebay or from Tivo. I can't think of any reason that U couldn't connect it to Time Warner for service. "Does it give you more channels say if you have cable" I don't understand this question
Alden Soldano: Tivo fundamentally is just a recorder for channels you already receive, either through a box or with cablecard, depending on if you want a Series 2 or older, or Series 3 or newer. TiVo is not a separate TV programming service, nor will decode or access cable channels you are not subscribed to. However, a TiVo will have access to a number of online content services, such as Amazon Unbox, Youtube, Netflix, and Hulu Plus (which, depending on model).You subscribe to the TiVo service (which is an EPG service, plus a license to use nearly all of the TiVo software and network features).
