David Kuper: 99% of Americans are confused about SS, including, tragically, most congressmen & all Presidents. SS settlements are solely from the (OASI ) (the 'I' stands for "Insurance", not 'Benefit' ) money ripped out of your paycheck plus 800% interest compounded, no tax money, no employer money. You will get a statement of your total when you are 50. The SS program was devised by an insurance expert and is the best r! un program by the government & has always had a surplus & alwa! ys will. Your SS disbursements do not come from another generation, it has been invested the U.S. treasury 'savings' account, drawing interest, just as private insurance premiums do. If the government hired a private company to administer SS, there would be no confusion, so that is they best way to picture it. In large cities they are separating SS offices & Medicare/SSI offices so Bobbi will not get confused just because they take them out of your check tied together. The Baby Boom will end and return to a normal generation in 2030....Show more

Aldo Decurtis: they have always been a federal benefit

Boris Hadsall: Federal benefit my fanny. I worked and paid for (purchased) my social security payment. It is not a gift or gratuity of any sort. The government OWES me, and others who have paid into social security, the payments we receive. We PURCHASED that insurance. There is no greater debt the government has, NOTHING, than paying the social se! curity recipients who have paid into the system. That being said, let's! recognize that a whole lot of people are getting funds from the social security "pot" that have not contributed. THESE freeloaders are indeed getting social security BENEFITS......Show more
